The bedroom we were using was on the first floor of Casa Blanca. It had double doors that opened onto a wrap-around covered terrace. It was perfect for Luca as it allowed him to be out in the fresh air while giving him respite from the sun. I was standing with my son in my arms, admiring the incredible views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, when I saw Alfie’s Mercedes cruise up the driveway.

‘How did it go?’ Jethro asked when the car came to a stop, and his son stepped out into the bright sunshine.

He was lighting the traditional built-in barbecue, located directly beneath my balcony, so I stepped back into the shadows where I could listen without being detected.

‘Let’s just say, from now on, we’ll be keeping our Albanian friend under close scrutiny.’

‘That sounds sensible,’ Jethro replied.

‘Where’s Gemma?’ Alfie asked.

‘She went to change Luca. I thought I’d fire this up and make us some food,’ Jethro said.

‘That’s a nice idea, but I’ve got to get back to the UK.’

‘Why so soon?’ Jethro questioned.

‘Curly phoned to say the police have been in touch about the tablets Yeta took,’ Alfie replied.

‘I see,’ Jethro said.

‘Apparently, they were cut with other dangerous stimulants. They contained speed, ketamine and cocaine. She didn’t stand a chance; especially as there’s no antidote for an MDMA overdose.’

‘It’s a terrible business,’ Jethro replied.

‘The cops told Curly that they’d arrested a nineteen-year-old man on suspicion of supplying Yeta with the class-A drugs.’ Alfie laughed.

‘What’s so funny?’ Jethro asked.

‘Rufan’s using him as a scapegoat. Drita told me Shehu had ordered her to give her friend the lethal ecstasy pills. Nobody sold them to her.’
